Welcome to TALKFEST 2014
The Liggins Education Network for Science (LENScience) provides schools with access to scientific research communities and promotes connections between schools and scientists. We have developed innovative programmes, designed to inspire schools and scientists to maximise student potential and understanding of science and health issues.
A LENScience initiative that breaks down geographical barriers and provides opportunities for students around New Zealand and the Pacific, is the LENScience Connect Series. There are a series of broadcasts by LENScience teachers and scientists, that can be accessed by schools and students irrespective of their location. Students participate in scientific discussions and share ideas and opinions on a range of current science topics with scientists, educators and other students via our online discussion forums while watching the broadcasts.
The next LENScience Connect broadcast will be the Lord Winston TALKFEST, on March 13th, from the Fale Pasifika, at the University of Auckland. The topic of discussion will be around Puberty for Year 7-10 students and Reproductive Technologies for Year 12-13 students.
There are a number of ways schools and students can participate in The Lord Winston TALKFEST. Students can be part of a STUDENT PANEL (see information below). Schools also have the opportunity to join the STUDIO AUDIENCE, or view the live broadcast online and participate in the LiveChat.
- Students in New Zealand schools can enter the STUDENT PANEL competition and win a place on the LIVE STUDENT PANEL in Auckland
- The competition is designed to create a pre-event learning activity that will support student engagement in the TALKFESTs
- Full details of the competition, including Terms and Conditions can be found on the STUDENT PANEL page.
- Information about a competition for Cook Islands schools will be posted shortly.
